Welcome!
This is the beginning of a new adventure for me. For almost as long as I can remember, I've been searching for a way to balance my passion for technology with my desire to make a difference in the world. While I have not yet found (or founded) a start-up that allows me to blend those two desires, I have decided not to wait any longer. My thinking is that even if I can't balance those two desires from 9 to 5 each day, this blog might still allow me to reach out and share what I have learned with others who might benefit.
Where did this journey begin? It began when I met Julien, the woman that I would ultimately marry. Before we met, however, she suffered a head injury that would change her life and ultimately mine forever. Many things, both positive and negative, were precipitated by that injury. Among other things, she ended up in chronic pain and with a seizure disorder. As her partner, I often found myself witnessing her disabling pain, seizures, and a myriad of other related issues. As a "guy", my tendency, of course, was and is to look for practical ways to fix, or at least help her. As a "techie", I am always looking for ways in which science can help. Over the course of almost a decade, as Julien has moved from disability to health, I have continuously been researching technological solutions to some of the issues and symptoms that have presented themselves. Some have not helped, some have helped immensely, and many have helped in smaller ways. This blog is an attempt to share some of this knowledge. Additionally, I will occasionally blog about what I have learned about compassion and emotional support ("human technology" perhaps?) along the way, for they too have played a big part on this journey.
If you are interested in finding out more about the journey to health from Julien's perspective, and what she has learned about healing and how she now helps others get out of pain, please visit her website.
I have a long list of products that I intend to blog about as time permits. My intention at this point is to write at least one blog entry per week. I welcome any and all feedback and know that there will be times that encouragement by anyone reading this blog will be greatly appreciated and necessary to keep me going. Thanks in advance!
With great respect and love,
Martin
